As I have been preparing for this months blog tour, I have been thinking deep thoughts about what I can to do be a positive impact on other lives and who and what makes a positive impact on mine. The first thing that cam to mind is how wondrous the romance writing world is because of the WRITERS.
Ok, first, open this little link in a new tab–that’s right, right click on it, click on “open link in new tab” and what are you going to see? Well, you are going to see what comes up is you type into google “writing romance”. Assuming you did look at that link, you might have noticed something of a theme: HOW TO WRITE ROMANCE.
WHAT?!?!?! Other romance writers are giving you tips for how to write romance? Isn’t this a competitive market? Don’t writers want readers to spend their money on THEM??? If they give away all their secrets to success (for free) then how will they keep their fan base?
Well, yeah, of course we do, but we are all about the LOVE. Romance writers (in general) are helpful folk. We like to see another writer blossom and bloom out,. It’s fun to fangirl over our favorite author’s stuff–especially when we are friends with them and we get sneak peeks of what is to come. I’ve only be a romance author for about 6 months now and I can say without hesitation that I haven’t met another romance author who wasn’t all about the love! I have become friends with some amazing authors, and have gotten both their encouragement and counsel whenever I needed it. I liberally give out my own encouragement and (in all honesty) am surprised when my counsel is sought.
Being a part of the community of indie published romance writers has been one of the most positive and encouraging experiences of my life. The women participating in this blog tour with me have quite literally changed me as a person and I am better for it. Want to find one of the last remaining cooperative communities–join the RWA or even just a romance writers’ Goodreads group–you will discover some of the best friends you will ever know (plus, we are all a little kinky–uh, crazy–yeah crazy).
